Sundance Jenkins

Versatility Keeps Them Fresh

Sundance Jenkins was originally a side project of Mark Swift and H. Aaron Strickland of Strawberry Nixon, but had to be put on a back burner for about a year. Strawberry Nixon was started by Mark and Brandon Swift in 2002 and was known for a CD of original music released in the area. Strawberry Nixon, or SNX as they became known, began a three year run playing mostly cover tunes at clubs and colleges.  After Brandon relocated Strawberry Nixon to Atlanta the movement of Sundance Jenkins into the regional music scene was almost seamless.

Sundance Jenkins is now the combination of Mark Swift (Strawberry Nixon, Swift and Evans, Desiree Byrd), H. Aaron Strickland (Strawberry Nixon, Clydesdale, SR6), Jake Boykin (Kason Layne), and guitarist Terry Chitwood (Tobias, Mojo Poets, Lost Southern Boys).  Sundance Jenkins travels with a playlist that includes Blind Melon, Audioslave, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Morrison, Cake, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks, even Brooks and Dunn--a very, very wide variety of music because all of the members of the band like a wide variety of music. The band also has a wide variety of originals that will be on their upcoming CD.  At a Sundance Jenkins show you are likely to hear a Violent Femmes song, followed by a Brooks and Dunn song, followed by a 4 Non Blondes song.  The goal of the band is to satisfy everyone in the audience at some point and to have fun doing it.

Sundance Jenkins has come a long way.  Members of the band have made great strides in the music business.  Mark has made appearances on National and International television on The Nashville Network (CMT) and through international syndication.  Aaron has been endorsed by DMR Drums (www.dmrdrums.com) and owns his own entertainment/booking company, Double A Productions.  He has even had the opportunity to fill in for the band Naked Beggars, which at the time featured two members of the multi platinum selling band, Cinderella.  In addition, Sundance Jenkins band members have been on hand to play live with such acts as REO Speedwagon, Great White, Andy Griggs, Ricochet, Seven Mary Three, Confederate Railroad, The Wrights, Vanilla Ice, The Charlie Daniels Band, Afroman, and various original members of Molly Hatchet—all of these are performers who until now have yet to be included in the same sentence.  Sundance Jenkins has unpacked its gear in seven states (GA, FL, SC, NC, TN, AL, and NY) for numerous clubs, fraternities, sororities, and special events and festivals including the Alapaha Station Celebration, the Flatlander’s Frolic, the Azalea Festival, the Brown Bag Concert Series, and several others.

In case you’re wondering where the name came from, Sundance Jenkins is a product of all of us spending too many nights sleeping on the floors of hotel rooms traveling around as Strawberry Nixon. It is a combination of several things, Old Man Jenkins from Sponge Bob, Possum Jenkins from Outkast and just kinda evolved into a band name for us. (Mark aka Boom aka Old Man Jenkins aka Possum aka Possum Jenkins aka Jenkins aka Shanghai Jenkins aka Sycamore Jenkins…...).  For more information on Sundance Jenkins, visit them online at www.sundancejenkins.com and www.myspace.com/sundancejenkins.  For booking information, contact Double A Productions at (229) 563-4596 or visit www.aaronstrickland.com.
